Soraya Rodríguez, MEP from Renew Europe group, calls for improved relations with Africa to achieve the continent’s goals of equal rights, climate change and the fight against poverty. Rodríguez argues that the new EU-Africa strategy must be different and should be a starting point for a relationship between equals, far from paternalism. The MEP acknowledges Africa’s poverty problems and instability, but also points to the great opportunities it offers, having doubled its GDP in 12 years, creating a huge commercial area and experiencing significant technological development.
