Soraya Rodríguez explains and reviews the main developments involved in the new EU-Chile pact.
Soraya Rodríguez, member of Renew Europe, notes as a milestone the approval of the new EU-Chile agreement, the first free trade agreement signed this legislature between a Latin American country and Europe. The MEP points out that this agreement will promote closer ties between the two regions and promote trade relations, where sustainable development and environmental and labour protection will have a prominent weight. In addition, this text is the first to include a specific chapter on trade and gender equality, to facilitate women’s participation in trade. Another highlight is the chapter on the development of food supply chains, to establish sustainable and resilient instruments, including food waste reduction or animal welfare. Finally, this agreement also incorporates the need to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 through a green transition.
