Soraya Rodríguez on women victims of gender-based violence in pandemic

Rodriguez calls for an aid plan for women victims of gender-based violence in emergency situations such as the pandemic.

Soraya Rodríguez, MEP from Renew Europe group, calls for a plan to help women victims of gender-based violence in emergency situations such as the pandemic, to prevent them from living with their aggressor without assistance during successive waves. The MEP recalls that no country has achieved the commitments and levels of equality that were established 25 years ago with the Beijing declaration. However, she stressed the importance of not backing back in the face of threats from some countries, including within the EU, to women’s sexual and reproductive rights. Finally, Rodriguez points out that women’s rights are human rights, and vice versa, and ensures that no country can be allowed to trample on the rights of its citizens.
