Fighting these two phenomena is one of the major challenges facing humanity in order to preserve its long-term survival. Women will play a key role in this arduous task, which will require everyone’s commitment.
Women who turned nature preservation and protection into their cause with a single objective: to leave future generations a better world. . Women who understood that the protection of biodiversity and the fight against climate change are two sides of the same coin. Women who bravely decided to be at the forefront to prevent injustice and the overexploitation of natural resources.

More importantly, although climate change affects us and is a matter to all of us, women and girls are particularly affected by its negative effects and their inequalities are amplified. 80 % of people displaced by climate change are women. Women play a key role in food production in many countries around the world, making them more vulnerable to prolonged droughts and severe weather events. This directly affects the food security of families and their communities. It also affects girls' education: in adverse situations, girls are often the ones who drop out of school to help their mothers. Women environmental defenders are often more at risk of certain forms of violence, discrimination and abuse than their counterparts.

However, women are not only the main ones affected by climate change. Women have played and continue to play a leading role in climate resilience and in the search for sustainable and innovative solutions. They are advocates for change, environmental activists and educators, effective agents of innovation against climate change. Women contribute to meeting the challenges of an energy transition, which must necessarily be both just and green.
Climate change is an immense challenge for our societies, so it is imperative to use all our capacities and potential. We must therefore ensure that women are in the debates and negotiation tables where solutions are discussed; at the forefront of governance, natural resource management and conservation; and in decision-making spaces in rural areas.
Without women, we will not succeed in stopping climate change. This is the main global challenge we face in the coming decades. From the women in the mangroves of the Niger Delta to the women committed to the Green Wall or the European women involved in the search for innovative solutions, the women at the forefront of climate change are many and diverse. We invite you to meet them, disseminate their demands, support them and accompany them in their struggles.
