Soraya Rodríguez on the need to update the Victims’ Rights Directive to resolve its rulings.
Soraya Rodríguez, member of Renew Europe group, explains the need to update the Victims’ Rights Directive to resolve its current rulings. Rodriguez, who assures that most serious crimes in Europe are not reported, mentions among the things to improve the training of officials who come into contact with the victims, in order to avoid their revictimisation; strengthen the physical protection of victims by facilitating access to shelters and specialised centres; or the need to include and pay greater attention to cybercrimes, such as sexual violence against minors or cyberbullying. The MEP also stresses the importance of an early assessment of victims in order to be able to meet all their needs from the outset; the need to set up a system for the collection, production and dissemination of statistics; and improve the recognition of the role of NGOs working with victims.
