Soraya Rodríguez on the democratic will of the people of Guatemala in the face of harassment and threats

Soraya Rodríguez criticizes the action of Guatemala’s judiciary after the June 2023 elections, which tries to interfere with the election result

Soraya Rodríguez, from Renew Europe parliamentary group, criticizes the action of Guatemala’s judiciary after the national elections held on July 2023. Rodríguez was present at the elections and ensures that it was a democratic process “clean, transparent and legitimate, also observed by the international community.”

Despite this, according to the MEP, the Prosecutor’s Office has pressed to outlaw results that have given Bernardo Arévalo as the winner with more than 60 % of the vote.

She has argued that the European Union is on the side ‘of the people of Guatemala and the democracy of Guatemala’.
