Rodriguez calls for more sanctions against Ortega’s regime and judges who are carrying out political repression in Nicaragua

Soraya Rodríguez, MEP of the parliamentary group Renew Europe, has today called for new sanctions against the dictatorial regime implanted in Nicaragua. The MEP has expressed concern about the worsening human rights situation since Ortega came to power.

She has denounced that only the sanctions that expired have been renewed, but that the list of these has not been extended or published again.

The MEP questioned how the EU had responded to the list of judges presented by the party, as potential candidates for new sanctions. According to the MEP, these magistrates have become the executing arm of Ortega’s dictatorship and have broken the law.

Rodriguez recalled the human rights violations to which political prisoners, such as Suyen Barahona, have being subjected, as she is isolated and unable to contact his five-year-old son.
