Soraya Rodriguez defends Nature Restoration Law

Soraya Rodriguez defends the Nature Restoration Law and points out that there is a lack of political courage.

The MEP for Ciudadanos and Renew Europe’s negotiator for the Nature Restoration Law said that the European Union needs to approve this law which makes “sustainable growth and the maintenance of healthy ecosystems” compatible.

“Most companies have spoken up in favour of the law because they know that growth is possible in Europe while maintaining the health of our ecosystems. Farmers and people living in rural areas also agree” she has defended.

She also stressed that more than 80% of Europe’s ecosystems are in a very bad state, according to scientific evidence, and their recovery is necessary not only for environmental reasons. She said that 70% of soils are degraded and 84% of crops depend on pollination, but the insect population is declining.

“We can make our production model and the maintenance of our ecosystems coexist in a sustainable way. This law does not threaten food security, we must remember that 70% of Europe’s agricultural soils are undergoing continuous erosion. This law does not only affect biodiversity, it affects the rights of today’s and tomorrow’s citizens,” she concluded.
