Resolution on the Supreme Court Decision who revokes Right to Abortion in the United States

Soraya Rodriguez calls for the constitutionalisation of the right to abortion in the EU

Soraya Rodriguez, MEP of Renew Europe, has called for the introduction of abortion into the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. This would prevent it from not being guaranteed, as it is happening in the United States, where it might no longer be a constitutional right. “A democratic society trusts women, it does not control them”.

Soraya Rodriguez has defended before the plenary a resolution on the regression of the right to abortion in the United States, which is also happening in other countries of Europe like Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. For this reason, it has advocated for constitutionalizing this right in the EU and for separating this issue from the right to life. “Let’s be honest. This debate is not about the right to life. When abortion is forbidden, abortion does not decrease. The number of women who abort clandestinely rises and millions of them die because of doing it secretly. This is not about the right to life; it is about women’s right to freedom. A democratic society trusts women and does not control them”, she stated.
