Nibia Pizzo is a psychologist at the Casa de Gardel Rehabilitation Center and president of Global Peace Women in Uruguay.
Nibia Pizzo was born in Uruguay and trained as a psychologist specializing in serious pathologies. In 1992 she began working in the Health Programme of the National Institute of Youth of her country, as responsible for the prevention of mental health problems in Uruguayan adolescents and young people, especially for problems related to depression, suicide and the abuse of psychoactive substances.
Later, in 2005, she joined the technical team of the Casa de Gardel rehabilitation centre for people with disabilities, a national reference centre, where Pizzo once again promotes the promotion of family care, which is a key support for improving the quality of life of the centre’s patients.
In 2013, she founded and chaired the delegation of Global Peace Women in Uruguay, an international non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and recognizing their critical role in building peace and leadership at all levels of society. In addition, the organization works with and supports teenage mothers and women deprived of their liberty, and conducts seminars and conferences for leadership training, as well as awareness-raising campaigns for Women’s Day. Since February 2021, she has also been a vice-presidential adviser to the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay.
In March 2023, she forms and coordinates the Continental Women’s Committee for Global Peace Women, made up of nine prestigious leaders from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay. The objective of this committee is to mainstream and disseminate the strengths of women’s leadership to find new and creative approaches to critical problems in Latin America.
