In July 11 of 2022, several protests took place in Cuba that changed its collective memory. Thousands of citizens inundated the streets peacefully to protest the shortage of commodities, the lack of freedoms and the repression of dissent. Hundreds of arbitrary arrests occurred in the following days, and in recent months, we have witnessed a wave of illegitimate and disproportionate imprisonments.
Days before, on July 7, Soraya Rodriguez organized the event “Patria y Vida para Cuba” during which the current situation in Cuba was analyzed by prominent speakers: Elena Larrinaga, from the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights; Waldo Fernández Cuenca, journalist; Daily Coro, doctor in the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights; and Jose Manuel Vera, professor of Constitutional law in Rey Juan Carlos University.
