Is the EU ready for war?

In this edition we analyse whether the European Union has the right tools to face an increasingly unstable world situation and we talk about the consequences of Navalni’s death.

This week at the European Parliament in Strasbourg we are accompanied by MEPs Soraya Rodríguez, (Renew Europe), Antonio López-Istúriz (EPP), and Nacho Sánchez Amor (S&D).

At a time of geopolitical turmoil, at the end of two years of war in Ukraine and with the conflict in the Middle East, we debated the role of the EU in the world. Our guests discuss whether the bloc is prepared to be a key and influential actor on the global scene, especially during an election year in Europe and abroad that could bring, among other things, a turn in U.S. foreign policy.

During the plenary session, Russian opposition member Alexei Navalni, who was killed in mid-February in a prison in Siberia, was also remembered. His widow, Yulia Navalnaia, has addressed the plenary in a powerful message in which she has asked MEPs to have more imagination to attack Russia.

Finally, last Tuesday the annual report on human rights and democracy in the world, prepared by Nacho Sánchez Amor, was presented in the European Parliament. We are debating whether the EU complies with what it preaches and on the European Union’s policies in this regard.
