On May 11, 2022, Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot dead by Israeli forces while exercising her profession, wearing a vest identifying her as a press. He was in the Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin in the West Bank.
Several media outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and CNN, as well as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, conducted independent investigations that concluded that the shot that killed Shireen Abu Akleh came from an Israeli soldier.
However, a year has passed since these events, and the murder of the journalist remains unpunished. One more year without justice being done for Shireen Abu Akleh and his loved ones.
This same week thousands of Palestinians from all over the world will remember their history, which is also their own, of 75 years of exile, exodus and occupation.
From the European Parliament, we will continue to demand that Israel conduct an independent investigation of these facts and call for justice for Shireen Abu Akleh and for all Palestinians, those who are, and those who have lost their lives without knowing freedom.
